Landowners have the right to prescribe burn. It's the law!

The Brush Country Prescribed Burn Association was recently formed to promote the safe and wise use of prescribed burning as a management tool on rangelands in South Texas, and advocate for landowner's rights, primarily regarding the right to safely conduct prescribed burns.  Prescribed burning is an integral tool to manage rangelands for the benefit of wildlife, livestock, and native habitats.  In addition, prescribed burning may be used to manage excessive fuel loads and reduce probability of wildfires or the spread of wildfires.  In recent years wildfires are perceived to be more common and catastrophic in nature. Consequently, fire and prescribed burning have been viewed in a negative light.  Unfortunately, lack of information and education to the public, media, and public officials has done much to stifle prescribed burning efforts. The burn association hopes to educate its membership, the public and public officials on the value of prescribed burning and the need to maintain a landowner's right to burn.
